Hand Stand During Dance Performance

Katya Merezhinsky, a principle teacher is a dancer with many years of a diverse dancing experience from folk to stage. 18 years of dancing tango and 20 years of teaching. Special studies and experience in kinesiology, anatomy, therapy in movement and various body work formats.

She was fortunate to study directly from the source with many of the most acknowledged Argentinian dancers, teachers and researches.

Jessica Lynn Hilbert, a lead assistant with 6 years of tango experience and a background in modern dance, ballet, contact body improvisation and multiple body work formats.

She embraces analytical approach to tango combining it with her extraordinary dance talent.

Methodology and Structure of the class

​

In the application to the current topic each class covers seven layers of the dance:

  • Body Conditioning (Alignment, Frame, Structure and Dynamics of the basic step, Fundamental elements of walking including giro). Not just knowing it but doing at a high level technique  

  • Basic Floor Geometry. Floor Pattern variations based on the fundamental floor matrix

  • Partner Work (Lead and Follow Technique )

  • Elements of Tango (hooks, out of axis moves, ganchos, boleos…)

  • Concepts (ocho and paso cortado, change of direction, vaivén, cross as a strategic point, molinete , etc…)

  • Improvisation principles

  • Musicality (applications of the above in salon, milonga, vals,“nuevo”)

 

Each month covers one element in the application of various concepts from simple to most complex.

Welcome to Tango Niche,  Argentine Tango School located in the heart of downtown Washington DC.

The school embodies three essential elements : Fundamentals Class, In-depth Studies, Practica. Occasionally we invite guest teachers and experts on specific topic for the advanced level.

1. Fundamentals class (Ozio Lounge, rooftop. 1813 M St NW, Washington, DC 20036)

    7.30-8.30pm Every Tuesday  

2. Practica following the class at 8.30-11.30pm

    Prices: Just a class $10 (students with ID $5), just a practica $10 (students with ID $5) including

    a glass of wine, a class and a Practica $15 (students with ID $10) including a glass of wine         

3. In-Depth Studies: 2 hour intense class for experienced dancers at Jordin’s Paradise Studio

    (1215 Connecticut Ave NW, 4th Floor, Washington, DC 20036) 8.30-10.30pm Every Thursday $20

4. Free In-House Practica for students every third Sunday of the month

5. Advanced level workshops are given by special requests and by guest teachers on specific topics only. They are not meant to be for all levels and are designed for people who know already have strong fundamentals, technique, understand tango structure, concepts, terminology.

Privates are available $100 per 1.5-hour session

​

Our progressive series of classes are structured to deliver a solid understanding of this complex dance including its structure, logic, history, musicality, technique, a body conditioning and giving you reliable tools for improvisation. Our environment is inclusive, comfortable and creative.
